Smokey was our special friend. He came to us 14 yrs. ago and was our pride and joy. He was our first Lab - he was our loyal companion, friend, and protector. He loved to ride on the back of the truck, go to pond and swim and just be with us no matter where we went. He loved to ride, even if it meant going to the vet. His tennis ball was his prized possession - He always put it in his feed dish while he ate and took it everywhere he went. He didn't leave home without it!! We own poultry houses and he loved going to help pick up chickens. He knew not to bother any of the chicks and people were amazed that we would leave him in the chicken house (he wasn't crazy about strangers) while strangers were around. Our later addition, included a yellow female lab, to which Smokey and she would have six beautiful chocolate labs - he was a proud dad. Smokey gave us so much joy and we were so proud to have him as part of our family. On August 24, 2006, a part of us was taken away - Smokey left us after a short illness. On August 22, he was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma. By the time he showed any noticable symptoms, it was too late. Our vet said this cancer is very aggressive, and it had already progressed to his spleen, liver, and lungs with the only outward signs of coughing with a few drops of blood and very slight abdominal distension. Smokey was the best companion and friend anyone could ask for. We miss him so much. I know without a doubt we gave him as much joy as he gave us. I know he's in heaven now with no suffering nor pain.
